Key defender out, swans ax boy guns

GREATER Western Sydney full-back Phil Davis failed to overcome a knee injury and will miss Thursday night’s Sydney Derby against the Swans in Perth.

Davis injured the central ligament in his left knee when the Giants beat Essendon last Friday night and did not recover in time.

It’s the first game the former captain missed in 2020.

Ruckman Shane Mumford was rested for the game at Optus Stadium, with Sam Jacobs and debutante Tom Hutchesson the two replacements.

The Swans have made three changes to the team that Collingwood helped beat at the last start Nick Blakey one of the men returned.

Blakey is accompanied by Colin O’Riordan and Zac footwhich occur at the expense of the injured Aliir Aliir and promising youngsters Matthew Ling and Elijah Taylor.

It is the first time that these clubs have played a game outside of New South Wales.
