Joe flacco won’t be available for the start of the 2020 season. But there’s good news for the former Super Bowl MVP.
The Jets quarterback is set to miss a game or two after visiting a specialist on Friday to check on his progress after neck surgery, reported Ian Rapoport, an NFL network insider. Flacco, who underwent a disc repair in April, showed no problems during his last exam and is expected to have a final checkup in early September, according to Rapoport.
The 35-year-old QB signed a one-year contract with New York in May. He started the first eight games of the 2019 campaign for the Broncos before suffering a neck injury that landed him the remainder of his first season in Mile High City. He completed 65.3% of his passes, a career-high, but averages just 227.8 yards per game while producing a TD-INT ratio of 6: 5.
Denver went 2-6 in the process.
- The Jacksonville Jaguars made a ton of moves on Saturday to bring their roster to 80 players. Veteran defensive tackle Rodney Gunter was placed on the active / non-football related injury list. Jacksonville announced he had given up on returning rookie Tavien Feaster, first-year offensive lineman Tyler Gauthier, rookie offensive lineman Steven nielsen and rookie kicker Brandon wright, and released third grade security Doug Middleton.
- Offensive lineman Spencer Long signed with the San Francisco 49ers, Rapoport reported. A six-year-old pro, Long played for the Bills in 2019, coming off the bench in 14 games. He started 13 games the year before for the Jets and spent four years in Washington before that. The 29-year-old played goalie and cross.
- The Minnesota Vikings announced on Saturday they had signed a linebacker Quentin Poling and in a corresponding movement released in reverse Tony brooks-james.
