Jakobsen speaks about crash: ‘I was afraid not to survive’

Fabio Jakobsen is back home. Two weeks after his serious crash in the Tour of Poland, the Deceuninck-QuickStep cyclist says he feared for his life.

“It was a difficult, dark period for me in intensive care, where I had the fear of not surviving”, says Jakobsen, who flew into the gates at high speed after a sprint duel with Dylan Groenewegen.

“Trauma doctors, doctors and nurses at the finish line in Katowice saved my life,” realizes Jakobsen, who later underwent surgery in Sosnowiec. “They gave me the opportunity to live here. I am very grateful to all the hospital staff.”

Rehabilitate

For the 23-year-old Jakobsen a long period of rehabilitation has started. “Step by step I can start living more independently”, Jakobsen continues on Instagram. “At the moment I am at home, where my facial injuries and injuries can continue to recover.”

“In the coming weeks and months I will undergo more operations and treatments to repair injuries to my face. Step by step I can slowly look to the future and I will fight to recover.”
