Jaguars lose 2 more defensive linemen, agree to sign 3 veterans

JACKSONVILLE, Fla – The Jacksonville Jaguars have lost two more defensive linemen, bringing their total to five just a week after training camp.

The Jaguars placed defensive tackles Brian Price (knee) and Dontavius ​​Russell (hip) on the injured reserve on Sunday, adding to a depth problem created when defensive end Lerentee McCray and defensive tackle Al Woods chose not to not participate in the 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, the only franchise player in the league not to sign his offer, is looking for a trade and skipping the team’s activities. Ngakoue is not under contract and is not subject to fines.

The Jaguars are down six defensemen overall, cornerback Rashaan Melvin also retired recently.

Jacksonville signed three veterans on Sunday – defensive tackle Caraun Reid, defensive back Tramaine Brock and defensive lineman Carl Davis – in hopes of filling the void. They also gave up on corner rookie Kobe Williams.

Reid made four tackles in three games last season in Arizona. The companion also spent time with Detroit, San Diego, Indianapolis and Dallas. Brock, a veteran who played for San Francisco, Minnesota, Denver and most recently Tennessee, made 248 tackles and 11 interceptions in 10 seasons in the NFL.

Davis appeared in 36 games in five seasons in the NFL. He signed with the Jaguars after Week 12 of the 2019 season and saw action in two games. He also performed with Baltimore and Cleveland.
