The Olympic classes are seeing multiple modifications to their competition schedule. The testing schedule that had been established at the beginning of the year was canceled during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic across Europe and it was not until just over a month ago that attempts have been made to readapt it.

Despite the efforts of all parties involved and in the face of the world situation, new changes have taken place.

Spain currently has seven of the 10 Olympic classes classified and, with just over 10 months to go to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the opportunities to compete against our greatest rivals are minimal.

The future Olympic class iQFoil gains strength on the international scene and will be the one that opens the test calendar by holding the European Championship between August 21 and 26 at Lake Silvaplana, Switzerland.

A total of 16 Spanish sailors will fight for the continental scepter, still pending sanitary restrictions in the country, with big names like Marina Alabau, who together with Andrea Emone are the women with the Spanish flag on the pre-registered list, adding Tomás Vieito, Juan Vieito, Manuel Roca, Nicolás Blanco, Pablo González, Rafael Aguado, José Luís Boronat, Alexander Büchau, Fernando Martínez del Cerro, Rafael de la Figuera, Ramón Pastor, Eduardo Agustín Navarro, Nico Fores to the men’s team and Ignacio García.

Before this test, some of them will take part in the FormulaFoil World Championship, in which many of the athletes who will fight for the European title will coincide, between August 17 and 22, within the IQFoil subdivision.

In Spain, the World and European Championships that the 470 and Finn classes were going to contest at the El Arenal Yacht Club between October 2 and 10, will only host the 470 continental title today, while the International Class Finn has yet to comment on any changes to his date.

The tables of the RS: X class have also seen their calendar modified, with the announcement of the change of venue for the European and Youth World Cup and absolute European scheduled in Greece, which will be held in Vilamoura -Portugal- from 22-28 of November.

The 49er, 49erFX, Nacra17 and Laser Standard classes are scheduled to attend two events that will be their first competition this year in Europe: the test organized in Aarhus -Denmark- from September 2 to 6 and the long-running Olympic event that is the International Week Kiel from the 10th to the 13th of the same month.

In addition, the Nacra17, 49er and 49erFX will contest the European title on the Austrian lake of Attersee between September 28 and October 4.

For their part, the Lasers have seen how the Greek sailing federation has announced its impossibility of holding the European championship in its waters, due to the current health situation they are experiencing. The continental event will be held in Poland probably between September 22 and 29.

A calendar for the next month full of possible modifications and unknowns about the health requirements imposed so that Spanish athletes can enter these European countries.
