Former NFL pro-bowler identified as the victim of a triple shootout in northwest Atlanta

Police said one of the victims of a triple shooting Wednesday in northwest Atlanta was a former NFL Pro-Bowler.

Atlanta Police said officers responded to the 400 block of Oliver St NW. around 12:46 p.m. Wednesday. Officers found three men in their 60s, all with gunshot wounds.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS, while the other two men were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Police have since identified one of the two men taken to hospital as William “Chip” Banks, 60. Banks is a four-time Pro-Bowler who has played for the Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers and Indianapolis Colts.

TMZ first reported that the 1982 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year was rushed to hospital in serious condition.

Police said a group of masked men approached the house, shooting one man in the driveway before shooting the other two inside the house. Banks was reportedly shot inside the house.

The other two victims were identified as Charles Pharms Jr. and Bennie C. Harris.

The police are still looking for the shooters.

Investigators say they don’t believe it was a random attack.
