When RB Leipzig won, it was a toe that steered the ball into the opponent’s goal shortly before the end. The Saxons won against Atlético Madrid and advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League. There is also FC Bayern, but without the help of a certain fortune. In the cracking 8: 2 against the glorious FC Barcelona, ​​even the flapping of a white-tailed eagle’s wings could not have falsified the result.

There was a lack of concepts and visions

German football has not been fortunate enough in recent years. But it wasn’t bad luck either, which made for a miserable performance in the European Cup competitions and for yawning boredom in the league.

Behind the industry leader FC Bayern, an umbra had formed in which the other clubs withered. The result: monotony in the Bundesliga, embarrassment in Europe. There was a lack of courageous concepts, visions and – yes – money.

The fact that two German teams are in the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2013 should therefore not be overestimated or even interpreted as a trend reversal. However, it is an encouragement and it is not the only one.

Germany already played a leading role in the hygiene concept, which made it possible for the Bundesliga to be the first of the major European leagues to resume gaming during the Corona crisis. The DFL concept was praised and copied, and it saved many clubs from financial collapse because television money could keep flowing. You can’t just rely on luck.
