Did the German judge deliberately rule out Juventus? He used to be punished in a corruption scandal

Juventus was eliminated in the eighth finals of the Champions League with Olympique Lyon after losing 0: 1 in France and a 2: 1 home victory. Referee Felix Zwayer, however, made two mistakes in retaliation in Turin, once in favor of Lyon and the second time he missed Juventus.

Zwayer whistled for a meaningless penalty in favor of Lyon, when the Old Lady’s defender only slipped the ball. Everyone has seen it. Even worse, the referee checked everything with the video referee and still whistled the penalty kick. He then ordered a second nonsensical penalty for Juventus, when the Lyon player played by hand, but it was in the body and the football rules were not broken. This time, too, he checked it with the video and ordered a penalty again.

For the second time, he may have wanted to compensate Juventus, because in the first case he really damaged the Old Lady. Memphis Depay and Cristiano Ronaldo, of course, changed the eleven and went to the cabins at 1: 1, CR7 then scored a second time in the second half, but a 2: 1 victory was not enough due to the rule for goals outside Juventus and the Italian champion ends up in the Champions League. round of 16. This then led to the dismissal of Maurizio Sarri and the involvement of Pirl.

Mistakes in the Champions League are, of course, commonplace for the judges, but this should not happen after the introduction of the video referee. And not twice per match at all. Theoretically, 0: 0 would be a better result for Juventus than 1: 1. Felix Zwayer really didn’t experience the most successful match of his career. If we turned his performance into a player’s performance, we could compare it, for example, with Raphael Varan, who was twice wrong against Manchester City.

And the 39-year-old judge really isn’t an angel. He has also had a corruption affair. He allegedly accepted a bribe of 300 euros at the beginning of his career, when he worked as an assistant referee during the match between Wuppertal and the Werder Bremen. And the 300 euros were said to have been given to him by the main referee Hoyzer, who is connected with the biggest bribery affair in the history of German football. That was in 2005. It is therefore strange that UEFA nominated him for such a prestigious match.
