Coke Sniffing Assistant Coach Chris Foerster Gets Job With 49ers

Almost three years after being caught snorting cocaine on video, Chris Foerster is once again an assistant coach for the NFL.

The San Francisco 49ers have signed Foerster on a two-year contract, according to NBC Sports Bay Area, and he is listed as an offensive lineman on the team’s website.

In 2017, Foerster was forced to resign from the Miami Dolphins when video of him sniffing a powdery white substance surfaced on the social media of another party animal. He later admitted it was cocaine and immediately went to rehab.

The 49ers slowed down a second chance for Foerster, hiring him as a game planning consultant for the previous two seasons. The 58-year-old had a pre-existing relationship with coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch during previous stoppages in his coaching career.

“We’re trying to comfort him,” Shanahan told NBC Sports Bay Area in August 2019. “I understand how much of a problem he’s had. I also understand what he is doing by committing to fix this problem. We are trying to give it a chance to get back on track.

Shanahan added, “He did something extremely stupid, and since then he has hit rock bottom. He was in rehab for 60 days, then he was in outpatient rehab for 90 days. For the past two years, he has participated in a 12-step program in which he participates every evening, seven days a week.

As a consultant, Foerster broke down the film and worked on scouting reports, but wasn’t inside the facility or around the full-time gamers.

Now he’s back to the long hours and work of an assistant coach. He has been involved in the NFL every year since 1993, including two previous ones as the 49ers offensive line coach (2008-09, 2015).

Foerster told the NFL Network in 2018 that in some ways it was a blessing to get caught because it motivated him to quit however he wanted.

“I want this out of my life. I can’t do this anymore, ”Foerster said. “All this, I happened outside of work, I don’t want to do this anymore. I don’t want to drink anymore. I don’t want to use anymore. And of course, two weeks later the video came out. So you can say it’s divine intervention. That wasn’t how I saw everything leaving my life like this. But I knew it was going to happen.
