Chelsea’s £ 40m transfer decision which is bad news for Leeds United and Ben White

Leeds United could have received a blow in the pursuit of signing Ben White from Brighton on a permanent basis following his successful loan spell.

The Whites made the young defender their main target ahead of their return to the Premier League, but found the Gabbiani skilled negotiators.

Brighton boss Graham Potter is known to be a fan of White and could give him his first team opportunity after his successful spell at Elland Road.

Leeds have already seen a series of advances rejected for the defender and could have received their biggest blow of all courtesy of Chelsea.

The Sun reports that the Blues are closing a £ 40 million deal to bolster their defense with the capture of Brighton captain Lewis Dunk.

Frank Lampard’s team is said to have diverted their attention from West Ham’s Declan Rice, with the Hammers commanding the whopping £ 80 million for the England international.

If Dunk were to leave AMEX stadium, that would open up the opportunity for White to have his chance in the first team – and could be the final nail in the coffin of Leeds’ pursuit.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side will almost certainly not ditch White and will still have plenty of time to strike a deal if they can persuade Brighton to a sale, with the transfer window closing on 5 October.
