Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp ‘quipped’ his rivals’ shopping activities this summer. The man from Germany indicated that the addition of new players is not a guarantee of victory.
Chelsea is known to have started fishing, after being free from the transfer ban penalty. So far, the Blues have brought Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, and Thiago Silva. There is still Kai Havertz (Bayer Leverkusen) who is being chased by Roman Abramovich’s club.
Manchester City are also stretching. There are Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake who have officially landed at the Etihad Stadium. While Liverpool have just recruited Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos.
But Klopp is calm to see the movements of his competitors in the transfer market. According to him, recruiting many players is not a guarantee of success.
“What matters is not how many players the team can bring in. In the end only 11 people can play on the field,” said Klopp, quoted by Metro.
“The important thing is to create a team that is hard to beat and to be a worthy team (to win) by being ready to suffer for each other. That’s the most important thing, not who you can buy in these difficult times,” explained the former Borussia Dortmund coach. .
Last season, Klopp did not make many changes to his squad. After winning the 2018/19 Champions League, he only recruited Adrian to cover Alisson Becker, who was injured at the start of the season and Takumi Minamino in the winter transfer market.
Even though he only got two additional players to fill the main squad, Liverpool, which are already solid, still managed to win the 2019/20 Premier League, after the last time they won it 30 years ago.
