BVB puts Manchester United under pressure in Jadon-Sancho poker

Jadon Sancho showed nothing. He listened to Lucien Favre’s instructions while training on Thursday, while he was joking with his teammates during a drinking break. But the million-dollar poker for the English young star is on the home straight. The decision about Sancho’s future is made at the weekend. Those responsible at Borussia Dortmund have increased the pressure on Manchester United once again.

“I assume that Jadon will go to the training camp on Monday and play with us for the coming season,” said sports director Michael Zorc of the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. Despite the obviously intense advertising of the English record champions, there has been “no contact” between the clubs, said BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke, “not indirectly or through alleged intermediaries”. After BVB left for the training camp on August 10 in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland, there would be “no more Sancho changes this season”. So the time for Manchester United is ticking.

The “Bild” newspaper had recently reported that Sancho (20) had agreed with the Red Devils on a five-year contract. The contract could bring him up to 17.6 million euros per season. As a transfer, the Dortmund had called 120 million euros. “There was never an offer for Jadon,” emphasized Watzke, “but we prophylactically give the announcement what should at least be paid.”

Sancho, who still has a black-yellow contract until mid-2022, moved from Manchester City to Dortmund in 2017 for around eight million euros. His departure would be a bitter loss if he attacked Bayern Munich. In 99 competitive games for Dortmund, the England international scored 34 goals and prepared 43 goals. Achraf Hakimi also left BVB.

Should Sancho also change, the Favre team would lose an incredible amount of speed. If the worst comes to the worst, BVB would be prepared. “If Jadon would go, we would work again in the offensive area,” Zorc had already announced: “There are certainly one or two players that we have our sights on.”

It will be clear on Sunday evening whether BVB will have to join negotiations with Sancho’s successors. Watzke does not believe that Sancho, like Ousmane Dembélé (FC Barcelona) or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal FC) once forced his move to change due to a strike: “I don’t expect any difficulties. Jadon accepted that, he’s a very pleasant, fair guy. ”
