Betts equalized the MLB brand with the 6th game of 3 HR, the Dodgers beat Padres

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Mookie Betts scored three home runs in one game for the sixth time in his career, equaling a major league record, and the Los Angeles Dodgers threw six long balls all through Thursday night during an 11-point defeat -2 of the San Diego Padres.

Betts tied a sign shared by Sammy Sosa and Hall of Famer Johnny Mize. The 2018 AL MVP went 4 out of 4 with five RBIs and was hit with a launch at the main spot, where manager Dave Roberts was reluctant to lock him up.

Corey Seager, AJ Pollock and Austin Barnes also made a homer for the Dodgers. Seager is back after missing five games due to back pain. Barnes and Betts returned one after another.

With a chance to tie the big league mark of four home runs in one game, Betts hit a single infield in the seventh.

The top two home teams in the National League split the four game streaks, with the Dodgers overtaking the Padres 17-2 in the last two.

Julio Urías (2-0) conceded consecutive homers to Tommy Pham and Eric Hosmer in the first, but lasted 6 1/3 innings.

Chris Paddack (2-2) allowed six points and six hits in three innings.

CUBS 4, BREWERIES 2

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Yu Darvish caught a no-hitter in the seventh inning in his dominant third start in a row, and the major league leader Cubs defeated Milwaukee.

Darvish (3-1) conceded only one shot – Justin Smoak’s solo homer with one knocked out in the seventh inning on his 98th pitch – before Casey Sadler got up to start the eighth. The 33-year-old Japanese right-footer scored 11 shots and shot 104 shots.

Prior to Smoak’s lead, Darvish only allowed three base runners. He followed Ben Gamel in the second and Orlando Arcia in the fifth, and hit Christian Yelich with a low shot in the first.

Kyle Schwarber came home early as Chicago improved to 13-3 for the first time since 1907. Javier Baez, Ian Happ and David Bote each had an RBI.

Rowan Wick allowed Smoak to double with two outs in the ninth before finishing the four-hitter for his third save.

Puppy slacker Kris Bryant was kept out of the starting lineup with a sore left wrist and ring finger.

Brett Anderson (0-2) allowed two points in 4 1/3 innings.

METS 8, NATIONAL 2

NEW YORK (AP) – Tomas Nido played his first game of two homers as a pro, hitting a two-run shot in the fourth inning and a grand slam in the fifth to lead New York over Washington for a four-game series fraction.

Nido is only the fifth catcher in the history of the Mets to hit at least two homers and collect at least six RBI in one game.

Dominic Smith made a homer in the second and Pete Alonso had a single RBI in the eighth for the Mets, whose second consecutive win may have been costly. Left fielder Jeff McNeil was led away after crashing into the wall as he stole Asdrubal Cabrera a two-run extra-base hit to finish the first inning.

Smith, Alonso and Luis Guillorme have had two successes each.

McNeil’s capture cost the Nationals against rookie David Peterson (3-1), which allowed for an unearned run and didn’t give up on his one shot until Yan Gomes led the fifth with a single. Peterson walked twice, knocked out three and retired 11 out of 12 batters before Gomes hit.

Jared Hughes, Edwin Diaz and Brad Brach teamed up to finish the five-shot.

Juan Soto ended a sensational streak with a sixth-place homering. He was 7 of 15 with four homers and eight RBI in the four-game set.

Austin Voth (0-2) suffered defeat after conceding three runs out of four innings.

PIRATES 9, RED 6

CINCINNATI (AP) – Adam Frazier hit the first of three homers on Anthony DeSclafani, who hasn’t beaten Pittsburgh in his last seven attempts, and Pittsburgh is back from a three-day layoff with a win against Cincinnati.

Pittsburgh’s three-game streak in St. Louis was canceled due to the Cardinals’ COVID-19 outbreak.

The pirates showed no rust against a pitcher they dominated. Frazier connected on DeSclafani’s second pitch and the rout began. DeSclafani (1-1) has not beaten the Pirates since June 17, 2018 at PNC Park. Since then, it’s 0-5 in seven starts: all pirates win.

The Pirates sent 12 batters to the pot for seven runs in the second inning, their biggest of the season, winning only for the second time in 12 games.

Trevor Williams (1-3) allowed three runs in five innings.

SPOKES 17, SOX RED 8

BOSTON (AP) – Hunter Renfroe tied two homers and drove in three runs, Mike Zunino hit a three-run shot on the Green Monster and out of Fenway Park, and Tampa Bay completed a four-game streak over Boston.

The Rays have won six in a row and have beaten the Red Sox 12 of the last 14 times the teams have met.

Brandon Lowe added a solo homer during a five-run third inning that chased star Kyle Hart (0-1), who was making his major league debut.

Manuel Margot had his second game of four hits in the series, Willy Adames had three hits and two RBIs, and Yoshi Tsutsugo had two hits and two RBIs for the Rays, who recorded season highs in racing and success ( 19). Zunino drove in four runs.

Jalen Beeks (1-1) pitched two prominent goalless innings and Anthony Banda worked three innings on his first career save.

Kevin Plawecki had three RBI for Boston.

ORIOLES 11, PHILLIES 4

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Pedro Severino and Rio Ruiz returned home against Thomas Eshelman and Baltimore beat three games from Philadelphia.

The Orioles, who lost 108 games last season, started 10-7.

Eshelman (1-0) conceded two points and four hits in five innings to earn his second career win.

Phillies starter Jake Arrieta (1-2) dropped four points and seven wins in 4 2/3 innings.

JT Realmuto scored a pair of two-run homers for the Phillies, which fell to 5-9 under first-year manager Joe Girardi.
