Empty stadiums cement the economic and sporting differences in professional football. Bayern and Dortmund can best put up with the losses, others sorely lack the income.

Dhe return of football fans to the Bundesliga stadiums has become almost a national issue these days. After the German Football League (DFL) decided on a uniform approach for the new season, the discussions about the restrictions continue, especially among fan organizations. Some suspect that the pandemic would be used as a test balloon to see how sport could function in the future without real fan support. “All or none!” Echoes from the ultra scene, which categorically rejects football without a spectator or with distance rules only on the seats.

The clubs had agreed on a concept that should initially apply until the end of the year: no guest fans, no standing room, no alcohol, but personalized tickets to track visitors. It is not yet known how many spectators will be allowed to enter the stadiums for the new season in mid-September.
