Azahara Munoz takes the lead on the final day of the Ladies Scottish Open

Spaniard Azahara Munoz took the lead by just one shot in the final round of the Ladies Scottish Open after scoring a 69 under par two on Saturday.

The 32-year-old is seven under par for the entire tournament at the Renaissance Club after hitting birdies on the 15th and 18th.

“I love being out there so much. I don’t know, I think this break has been really good for me. I just got back and I just want to play golf. I just want to have fun,” Munoz said.

“I’ll do my best so at the end of the day, wherever it puts me, it will put me.

“In the past I think I’m always a little angry if things don’t work out or whatever, but I always give 100%. As long as I do, that’s all I can do.”

Tough conditions in Scotland saw just 14 record players below the average score for the tournament.

Stacy Lewis from the US shared the lead with Munoz headed for Saturday but logged 70 at the end of the day to drop a shot behind.

The two-time main winner is still looking for her first win in nearly three years before heading to the Women’s British Open next week.

The former top player and 12-time LPGA champion won the British Open in 2013.

“I think the biggest challenge for me tomorrow is to stick to what I’m doing, and the pace of play is terribly slow, and that doesn’t work in my favor,” Lewis said. “The people I’m playing with are pretty slow.

“So this is honestly going to be my biggest challenge, figuring out with that pace of play how I can get into a good pace and how to keep myself in a golf game pace and not feel like you’re waiting so long in between holes and shots and different things “.

Lewis’s compatriot Jennifer Song is in third place, scoring five under par for the day with New Zealander Lydia Ko and US Cheyenne Knight in fourth.

It is the first international LPGA Tour event since the Women’s Australian Open in February.
