Any golfer who has ever hit a too strong putt has the same immediate reaction: “hit a house!” Translation? Please, just hit the hole so that the ball doesn’t go beyond 15 feet.
Tour pros are no different, although their odds of hitting the hole are much higher. South African Brandon Stone found himself in this exact situation on Wednesday during the opening round of the British Masters at Close House GC in England.
Stone, who was working on one under the round on the back nine, detonated a birdie putt who was following the cup. The problem was that he was going too fast, but luckily for him the hole got in the way, when his ball hit the back of the cup and jumped out. Stone’s reaction was absolutely priceless:
Is there a pool noodle in that cup? Small pandemic golf joke for you.
Seriously, Stone’s facial expression couldn’t summarize that situation better. Of course, it would have been nice if he had miraculously fallen, but he knows he has succeeded. If the hole doesn’t get in the way, that ball rolls almost 10 feet. Instead, he cleaned up the tap-in and launched himself to the next T, suppose.
