“Vettel is the perfect teammate for Verstappen at Red Bull”

Former Formula 1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve is never afraid of a striking statement. The Canadian mentions in an interview with Sky Sebastian Vettel ‘the perfect teammate’ for Max Verstappen. According to Villeneuve, Red Bulls star designer builds cars with quirks that are difficult to drive. Pierre Gasly stumbled through it last year and Alexander Albon seems to be the next driver who can’t get by with a Newey car.

“Adrian Newey always builds cars on the cutting edge,” Villeneuve told Sky. “You can clearly see the differences between Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon.” However, Vettel could read and write with it in the past, given his four world titles with Red Bull between 2010 and 2013. For this reason, in Villeneuve’s eyes Vettel would be the perfect teammate for Verstappen. “Then Red Bull finally has two drivers who can drive on the limit.”

Villeneuve knows what he is talking about. Adrian Newey built, among others, the Williams-Renault FW19, with which the Canadian achieved his only Formula 1 title in 1997. The FW18, which brought Villeneuve in second place in the World Cup behind teammate Damon Hill in its debut year, was also from Newey.

Whether Sebastian Vettel will indeed become Verstappen’s teammate in 2021 is very questionable. For the time being, the German is emphatically associated with Racing Point, which will continue as Aston Martin next year.

It was another hectic Formula 1 weekend in Hungary. Max Verstappen played a leading role at the Hungaroring, but a lot more happened. Race car driver Tom Coronel, F1 journalist Ruud Dimmers and host Thomas van Groningen catch up on you in the latest RacingNews365 podcast, which you can listen to below.
