Verstappen hopes to sit at Silverstone within half a second of Mercedes NOW

Max Verstappen does not expect that he can pose a major threat to Mercedes this weekend. The fourth Grand Prix of the year will be held on the British Silverstone circuit on Sunday.

“I hope we are within half a second per lap of Mercedes,” said Verstappen at a news conference on Thursday. “But that is difficult to estimate in advance. It can also be two tenths or a whole second.”

Mercedes dominated the first three races of the season and seems to be heading for the seventh consecutive world title. Verstappen thinks that the Red Bull car can still be improved.

“But it remains to be seen how much progress we have made since the race in Hungary,” said Verstappen. “In any case, it is not a question of adjusting this and that and it will be resolved within a week.”

Verstappen: ‘We sometimes lose control in slower corners’

Verstappen and Red Bull do not know exactly where the problem is. “Otherwise it would be easy to do something about it,” said 22-year-old Limburger. “We are obviously trying to solve it.”

“The car can be improved in any way. In the slower corners we sometimes lose control of the car, it is very difficult to correct it.”

Verstappen’s best performance at Silverstone is second in 2016. The Red Bull driver has not been on the podium in Great Britain for the past three years. That was mainly due to Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel who hit him from behind last year.
