UPDATE: Man Killed in Johnson City Gunfight | WJHL

JOHNSON CITY, Tennessee (WJHL) – UPDATE: The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has identified the man who was killed in Tuesday’s Johnson City shootout.

According to the TBI, the man was identified as Kevin Lee Catlett (62) from Johnson City.

Catlett was shot and killed in the 900 block on McArthur Street during the incident.

The shootout took place on Tuesday evening in the 900 block on McArthur Street.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Johnson City police responded shortly before 7 p.m. to a reported domestic disorder involving a drunk man armed with a gun.

According to the TBI, preliminary information suggests that officials met the armed man in the middle of the street and told him to drop the gun, but he refused.

“At some point during the encounter, the subject was reportedly pointing a gun at police officers, causing one of the police officers to fire and hit him,” said Leslie Earhart, TBI’s public information officer.

The man’s identity was not immediately released. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the TBI, no officers were injured in the shootout.

The shootout is being investigated further.
