Update II | Mercedes engine has 20 hp more than Honda

According to Car engine and sport Red Bull Racing loses three to four tenths when the Honda engine and Mercedes engine are fully open. The engineers of the Max Verstappen team reported this to the German site.

The race analysis shows that the straight is a major problem for Red Bull Racing. In addition, they lose time in the fast corners against the reigning world champion. That is good news for Hungary, where relatively many slow turns will be made by the Red Bull drivers Verstappen and Alexander Albon.

More possibilities at GP Hungary

In addition, the percentage of full throttle is lower on the Hungaroring compared to the Red Bull Ring. At the Hungaroring, 67 percent go full throttle versus 78 percent at the Red Bull Ring. With a less strong Honda engine, this is no unnecessary luxury for Verstappen in his fight with Lewis Hamilton.

There is more cause for optimism for Red Bull. It will get warm in Hungary with a temperature of 30 degrees. According to Toto Wolff, this is in favor of the Bulls. “That could be a problem for us,” Wolff reports in the German media.

Cause panne Verstappen

Finally, the pace of Verstappen with a well-functioning car was not that bad at all compared to Hamilton. The 22-year-old Dutchman lost almost three-tenths per round on the first stint of 23 rounds (on softs). Only in the 54th lap did Verstappen start to lose significantly against Hamilton when, according to Horner, he damaged his wing when going out of turn nine on the curb. “We immediately saw that we were losing downforce to the data,” said the British team boss.

Update 17:25 (13/07) | Honda engine Red Bull especially falls short in race

The data shows that Red Bull in particular loses against Mercedes in the race, Mercedes technicians report to the German medium. This has everything to do with the fact that in the Honda drivetrain the MGU-K is switched off earlier than in the Mercedes. While this allows the Red Bull drivers to use the electric power longer during a lap, it doesn’t seem like the best (and fastest) way to do it.

However, Mercedes is not the master everywhere. Team boss Toto Wolff points out, for example, that the RB16 has an immensely high level of grip. In corner 3 and corner 4 of the Red Bull Ring in particular, it was faster than Mercedes. However, the Austrian racing stable shot itself in the foot by relieving some downward pressure from the car to increase top speed. This increased tire wear, so that Verstappen eventually had to recognize his superior in Valtteri Bottas. (Photo: Red Bull Content Pool / Getty Images)

Update II 15:50 (14/07) | Mercedes engine has 20 hp more than Honda

Honda is lagging behind the facts, according to the metrics of the Styrian Grand Prix, owned by Motorsport. The data clearly shows that the Mercedes power source has no less than twenty horsepower more than the power source of the Japanese. This explains what was feared before: the Mercedes still dominates in the field of engines.

The Mercedes F1 M11 EQ Performance engine, as it is officially called, is said to have power of around a thousand horsepower. Red Bull and Max Verstappen have never been close to a victory over the Red Bull Ring. Where Renault has to hand in no less than 35 HP compared to Mercedes, nothing is known about the Ferrari engine.
