JACK RODWELL appearing in the Premier League is the latest shock in 2020.
The fans were stunned when he came on as substitute in the second half of Sheffield United’s tie against Burnley.
It was Rodwell’s first appearance in the Premier League since May 2017 when Sunderland lost 5-1 to Chelsea.
The midfielder has only been on the winning side in his last 27 top appearances.
And the fans rubbed their eyes when Chris Wilder put him on instead of Chris Basham.
A Twitter user said: “Jack Rodwell on a Premier League football pitch. 2020 raises the bar every day.”
Another fan added: “Fair play for Jack Rodwell … he’s been on leave since 2012.”
In the meantime, one said, “Jack Rodwell has just come for Sheffield United. I had no idea he was there at all, I assumed he was living on a beach in the Bahamas these days.”
And one said, “Ah, well, Jack Trumpwell was playing a soccer game in Prem. Cancel 2020.”
29-year-old Rodwell joined the Blades on a short-term contract until the end of the season in January after leaving Blackburn Rovers.
The former English under-18 skipper came to Manchester City for £ 12m in 2012 after prevailing in Everton.
But he left the Etihad for a move to Sunderland in 2014 after playing only 26 times in two seasons.
After a catastrophic time with them, he joined Blackburn to revive his career.
But the Sunday clash against Burnley wasn’t his first appearance in a Sheffield United shirt.
The 29-year-old also played in an FA Cup duel against Fylde in January.
