Trump defends frequent golf, saying “my exercise is playing”

“My” exercise “is to play, almost never during the week, a game of fast golf. Obama played longer and longer games, no problem,” tweeted Trump.
CNN previously verified Trump’s claim that he had played less golf than his predecessor; Trump played more than twice as many rounds of golf than former President Barack Obama at the same time as his presidency. Trump made his 276th visit to one of his golf properties on Saturday.

Trump also defended his frequent rounds of golf by claiming that he often works on links.

“I play very quickly, I do a lot of work on the golf course and I also do some exercise. Not bad!” he tweeted.

Before winning the presidency, Trump was a frequent critic of Obama for playing golf in office. But Trump spent many weekends in his various golfing properties in Florida, New Jersey and Virginia, sometimes bringing legislators or entrepreneurs with him.

Trump has long reacted to checking his physical or mental health last week claiming that he “passed” a cognitive test without providing evidence.

It was the President’s last attempt to dismiss questions about his mental abilities and to question those of the alleged Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

The White House did not provide details on the test nor did it say whether it referred to a more recent assessment than the one it underwent in 2018.

Trump’s general medical status has often been a source of speculation.

In June, the White House provided a positive outlook on an annual physique, stating that the President’s cholesterol was falling from previous years, but never provided a complete explanation for an abrupt November 2019 trip to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center that the White House claimed it had to start early with its annual physique.

At the time, the White House claimed that it was a “routine check”, although it had not been announced and was not part of the President’s internal plans the morning he went there.

New questions about the President’s health surfaced last month when he appeared unstable as he stepped off a ramp at the West Point kick-off ceremony. Trump later raised the episode repeatedly, insisting that his leather shoes made it difficult to walk down the ramp.
