Tottenham evening headlines while Barcelona contacted Daniel Levy, Jose Mourinho’s plans drawn up

Here are the titles of the Spurs evening on Tuesday 19 May.

Danny Rose clarifies a strong blocking position

Spurs left-back Danny Rose, currently on loan at Newcastle United, clarified the strong and controversial comments he made on the return of the Premier League.

He revealed that he had received a call from Steve Bruce and that the chief of the Magpies told him that “I need to say things better”.

“He explained the steps they are going to take to make things safe,” Rose continued.

“Obviously I saw the titles and we, as footballers and people in public, have a platform.

“I know maybe I could have formulated a little better what I said, but I feel exactly how you feel that six weeks ago, Matt Hancock was saying that footballers need to halve their wages and now six weeks later we have to hope to try to entertain people.

“People have to make a decision. It’s one way or another.”

Mourinho begins to map the post-lockdown Spurs training plan

Barcelona was trying to sign Harry Kane

The Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona has been interested in signing Harry Kane in the past year (via Sport Witness).

Their first-choice center forward Luis Suarez has struggled with injuries over the past year and the report says that Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu wanted to make a statement by signing and contacting Tottenham to inquire about his availability.

But President Spurs Daniel Levy is said to have strongly rejected the approach, which did not come to a formal offer.

It is said that “Levy was clear” and quoted an “off market price” for Tottenham number ten.
