Tottenham defender Serge Aurier mourns

Jakarta

Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier is troubled. His younger brother, Christopher Aurier, died in a shooting incident in Toulouse, France.

Christopher died in hospital after emergency services found him shot in the stomach. At that time he was in an industrial area on the outskirts of Toulouse, while the alleged perpetrators fled the scene.

Christopher is a citizen of Ivory Coast, just like his brother. He was a footballer, having played for Lens, Gueugnon, Chantilly, then Belgian club Rebecq, and most recently played for local club Rodeo Toulouse in the fifth division of the French League last season.

Emergency services found it around 05.00 local time after receiving a call from residents. Residents previously found Christopher lying with a wound in the stomach.

“The club is very sad to confirm media reports that the brother of Serge Aurier died early this morning,” said Tottenham’s official statement.

“We support Serge in this difficult time and ask that the privacy of the player and his family be respected. Everyone at the club sends our sincere condolences to Serge and family. Our prayers are with them all.”

This sad news comes just moments after Aurier led Tottenham to a 2-1 win over Arsenal in the north London derby. The defender who is also the captain of the Ivory Coast national team appeared as a starter and play full.
