Tokyo Olympics: “Better ghost competitions than none”

Isabelle Werth is the most successful dressage rider ever. The 51-year-old has won six gold medals at the Olympic Games. Like Werth, Thomas Röhler also won gold at the games in Rio in 2016. Wrestler Frank Stäbler has to wait for this coronation. He wanted to fulfill his Olympic dream this summer. But because of the Corona crisis, everything turned out differently. The Tokyo Olympics were postponed by a year.

Question: What would a new Olympic postponement mean?

Werth: It would be sad without an audience. But better ghost competitions than none.

Roehler: I’m straighter on the road. For me, sports, spectators and emotions are very closely linked. That was the case even in the smallest competitions. When grandma and grandpa stood by the side, it was better than just the coach. Therefore, the Olympic Games must remain a big festival for me with fans.

Question: For many, the corona crisis is an economic challenge. How do you feel it – also because sponsors are in need?
