“Liepāja” reports that Birkāns, who spent the previous four seasons in the “University of Latvia” team, will be seen in the Kurzeme club for the next two years.
Last season, Birkāns went to the Latvian-Estonian joint championship in 25 games and spent on average a little more than 31 minutes on the court. The basketball player stood out on average in the match with 12.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists.
In 2017, Birkāns made his U-20 debut, but that year the team had an unsuccessful tournament and dropped out of the top division. He has previously represented U-18 and U-16 youth teams.
It has already been reported that Latvian basketball specialist Artūrs Visockis-Rubenis has officially become the head coach of the “Liepāja” team. The contract with the specialist is concluded for several years.
After the withdrawal of the Valga-Valka team from the joint league tournament, Liepaja players finished the season as the last among the 14 remaining teams.
