The Spanish Football Federation has proposed that the next season of the Second Division be played by 24 teams in response to the difficulties of fitting the end of this season, with several judicial fronts open after the wave of positives that forced the suspension of the Deportivo-Fuenlabrada.

“From this RFEF we understand that the state of the current situation leaves open a series of uncertain scenarios depending on the final result of each one of them,” explains the Federation in its note, sent by the General Secretary, Andreu Camps, both to the CSD. and La Liga like Deportivo and Numancia, the two clubs that would benefit from this situation. Fuenlabrada is also one of the recipients of the letter. “The decisions that are adopted at this time and without knowing the final result of the open procedures could become the final resolution that exists with the legal-competitive materialization at that specific moment of the resolution.”

“This RFEF neither can nor should prejudge any of the potentially possible results, but it can verify that some of them could create a situation of difficult or impossible rectification for some teams directly or indirectly affected by the results of the procedures that are going to take months to finish », the writing continues.

“Given this situation, the RFEF is considering the LNFP the option of accepting a second division league with 24 teams in an exceptional way and only for the 2020/2021 season, having to return to a competition of a maximum of 22 teams in the season 2021/2022 ».

For this, the governing body of Spanish football proposes to keep in the category the two teams with the best sporting merits of the last four classified teams, Numantia and Sports, “Which in turn coincides with the teams that on that day arrived with real mathematical options to be able to remain in that category”.

The RFEF offers this solution as the best way to guarantee, at this time, the possible incidents that the resolution of open legal fronts could have and their potential outcomes.
