ZIMBABWE has a rich golf history spanning decades. Home to three-time main winner Nick Price, the country has several courses that have gained worldwide attention for their uniqueness.
Of these spectacular routes, some of these main layouts have holes that must be seen to be believed. They are the best that the golf industry in the country has to offer and if you are thinking of traveling to the wonderful country to reach the links, these are the most interesting golf holes in Zimbabwe and absolutely not to be missed.
14 hole course at Leopard Rock Golf Resort, Mutare
Widely considered one of the best courses in all of Africa, the Leopard Rock Golf Resort is a trendy destination for golf enthusiasts heading to Zimbabwe. The course offers incredible water shows around the world along with some of the best fairways and greens anywhere on the continent.
The characteristic hole of Leopard Rock is the 14th hole known as Matkovich. Par 3 runs 199 meters from the championship tees and plays from a tee box elevated to the green below. Two larger pools of water protect the green on the right, while a snake-shaped sand trap protects the left side. The 30m drop from the tee to the green gives golfers an exhilarating experience as they wait to see where their first pitch arrives.
6 hole at Chapman Golf Club, Harare
The second hole in the list designed by Peter Matkovich, the sixth hole of Harman’s Chapman Golf Club, features a sprawling lake that runs along the front of the green, creating a second pitch which is one of the toughest in Zimbabwe. Golfers need to perfect their swing and hit two of their best shots of the day to get to the green and get birdies.
Incredibly complicated but also a lot of fun, Chapman’s sixth hole offers golfers a wonderful game experience that highlights their round on one of the best courses in the country.
Fifteenth hole at the Royal Harare Golf Club, Harare
The Royal Harare Golf Club is home to one of the most beautiful courses in all of Zimbabwe, and the 15th hole has claimed to be one of the best par 3s in all of Africa. With the tee box surrounded by trees, the golfer must play his shot on an elevated green that is tilted down and back into the fairway. The tee shot is not easy, and it is one of the reasons why the 15th hole is so interesting. If you miss the green, you’re facing a difficult road to grab the par, a problem that could affect your final score, so don’t forget the launch monitor for a more precise shot.
Playing at 15th is worth the green fee price alone at Royal Harare, but once you get to the course, you will be amazed at how magnificent golf is in the club.
18th hole at Leopard Rock Golf Resort, Mutare
Leopard Rock gets another hole on the list, the extraordinary par 5, 18 hole known as Tony Taberer. The final hole at Leopard Rock offers a postcard-worthy view while the golfer will see a kaleidoscope of tall, luscious trees, nearby Lake Chikamba and the inviting green of the fairway until 18.
The par 5 hole plays 465 meters from the points and can be reached in two strokes, but golfers must be careful since water and sand are everywhere, including the area around the green, where players are forced to find precision and distance for publish a good point.
