Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina was left covered in blood and needed a stretcher after a horror head injury on Thursday evening.
The Colombian collided with Napoli teammate Mario Rui and Mattia Caldara dell’Atalanta and had to be taken away after five minutes of treatment.
The incident, which took place after 30 minutes with the 0-0, came when Atalanta had a free kick on the edge of the area.
Papu Gomez threw himself into a ball towards the far post where Caldara and Rui were coming at full speed.
Ospina came to punch the ball – tilting it around the post for a corner – before the two players threw themselves at him.
Caldara’s knee appeared to connect to Ospina’s forehead as she stretched for the ball.
The goalkeeper suffered a lot and immediately signaled that he had to come off.
The Napoli medical staff took care of him on the pitch and after five minutes of treatment he called the paramedics.
Ospina was then taken to a stretcher with her head wrapped in bandages.
Alex Meret replaced him in a game that remained 0-0 in the middle of the half.
Ospina joined Napoli from Arsenal in 2018 and made 41 appearances in all competitions for the Italian giants.
He won his first Italian trophy with the Italian Cup earlier this season.
During his time at Arsenal, Ospina won two FA Cups and was also capped 104 times by Colombia.
