Substitute Kim Clijsters sticks to doubles at World Team Tennis | Tennis

Kim Clijsters finished two doubles at the World Team Tennis last night: one she won, one she lost. It was not intended that Clijsters, who suffers from the abdominal muscles, would take action, but she replaced Kveta Peschke twice.

The 37-year-old Clijsters replaced the 45-year-old Peschke at the New York Empire with a 1-3 deficit in the women’s doubles. Together with the American Hailey Baptiste, Clijsters was unable to turn the tide against Eugenie Bouchard and Bethanie Mattek-Sands: 5-2.

In the mixed double, Clijsters replaced the Czech Peschke from the start. With Neal Skupski, she swept Bouchard and Rajeev Ram 5-2.

NY Empire eventually lost the game to Chicago Smash 21-16. After 5 victories and 5 defeats, Clijsters and co. currently 4th out of 9 teams. The top 4 after 14 games advances to the playoffs.
