Five days ago, the NFL and the NFL Players Association reached an agreement on a revised collective agreement, aimed at resolving various issues relevant to professional football in a pandemic. The official deal, however, has yet to be signed.

So what’s the delay? As a source familiar with the situation told PFT, “Lawyers”.

The good news is that this likely means that lawyers for both sides are just haggling over precise language, and there hasn’t been any buyer’s remorse or other issue that would void the deal otherwise made.

The best news for players is that the withdrawal deadline does not come until seven days after the deal is signed. As of now, that means the first date players would see the allotted time to unsubscribe is Wednesday August 5th.

On Wednesday’s PFT Live, former NFL security Rodney Harrison – a member of the Patriots Hall of Fame – said if he still played, he would absolutely make it through the season. For every current player, it’s an extremely personal decision that only he can make, in consultation with his family.
