Steinbrenner: Yankees “expect” viewers in 2020

Given the rising COVID-19 infection rates at the start of baseball’s relaunch in 2020, even a TV-only season seems to be a big challenge. Still, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner showed a surprisingly optimistic tone about fans returning to Yankee Stadium this year, according to George A. King III of the New York Post.

“I expect the fans to be in our stadium at some point,” says Steinbrenner. Of course there are restrictions on vision. Even the KBO, which has been playing for some time, has not yet reintroduced fans and will do so to a limited extent in due course. Steinbrenner estimates that the number of visitors “will be between 20 and 30 percent [capacity] Hopefully reach first. “

Still not sold over the plausibility of this plan? Steinbrenner says it can be pulled off and claims: “In the stadium it is definitely possible to keep people at a safe distance and to wear masks with these capacities.” And he says the team has already had promising interactions with New York governor Andrew Cuomo. The top elected official of the state was “a big supporter to get the sport back on the field and finally, if things are certain, to get the fans back into the stadium,” said Steinbrenner.

When the Yankees’ faithful are allowed back into the park, they will obviously do so in an unusual formation. As is to be expected, fans are expected to spread not only to put on masks but also. Steinbrenner says the team worked with Ticketmaster to “put together a diagram that kept everyone at least a meter apart.”

First the Americans have to get through the camp and start the games. The team is aware of the need to maintain a healthy roster. Steinbrenner said the organization committed to ensure during the second training period that “everyone is safe, everyone keeps their distance, and follows the protocols.”
