Spain: Sevilla striker Ocampos has to score and secures victory with a parade

Sevilla FC’s Lucas Ocampos is actually one of the best strikers in the Spanish Primera División. In the 1-0 (0-0) win against SD Eibar, the Argentinian scored his 13th goal of the season when he struck a cross from Jesus Navas on the second post into the goal (56th minute). So far, so common. In the eleven-minute stoppage time, however, it was strange – and Ocampos finally became the match winner.

Sevilla’s goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik had suffered a serious knee injury in the 96th minute of a rescue operation against Eibars Kike García, causing him to be removed from the field on a stretcher. While still on the stretcher, the Czech goalkeeper got rid of his gloves and jersey – and passed them on to Ocampos. Seville coach Julen Lopetegui had already changed five times and thus exhausted the capacities.

Although the referee team around Antonio Mateu Lahoz only indicated five minutes of extra time, Lahoz had Eibars throw in at the opposing corner flag after the injury had been interrupted. Even Eibars goalkeeper Marco Dmitrovic had rushed forward. As a storming goalkeeper, he wanted to score against the goalkeeping striker for late compensation.

Goalkeeper and striker go astray

The ball actually flew through the penalty area to Dmitrovic, who left-footed the ball to the goal. However, Ocampos threw himself into the shot and parried the ball strongly (90. +11). Immediately after the action, Lahoz whistled the game. Sevilla won the game and defender Sergio Reguilón jumped into the arms of the already keeper.

The win puts Sevilla fourth from pursuer Villarreal, who lost to Barcelona on Sunday. Fourth place entitles you to participate in the Champions League in Spain as well as in Germany. Four games before the end of the season, Sevilla are now six points ahead of the pursuers. All tables and statistics can be found here.
