Ryan Blaney tire changer hospitalized after Brickyard 400 injury

INDIANAPOLIS – A tire changer for NASCAR driver Ryan Blaney was taken to hospital in Brickyard 400 after an injury on Sunday morning.

Zachary Price was detained between Blaney’s No. 12 and Brennan Pooles Chevrolet No. 15.

Five of the drivers were checked and released at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Infield Medical Center. Blaney meanwhile returned to the race.

NASCAR said Price had been hospitalized for further evaluation.

The race was marked with the red flag on lap 16 when the course workers tried to clear debris and take care of Price who was lying on a stretcher. He seemed to smile before being taken to an ambulance.

Blaney drives for Roger Penske, who bought the Speedway from the Hulman-George family in November.

Justin Allgaier, the replacement for the seven-time cup winner Jimmie Johnson, was also involved in the fall and retired from the race. Johnson’s series of 663 starts in a row ended after he tested positive for the corona virus on Friday.
