Ricciardo does not regret switching to McLaren: ‘I can make good decisions’

Daniel Ricciardo says he does not regret his move to McLaren. The Australian says he has thought about it and now wants to focus mainly on the season that remains at Renault: “Until then, I don’t really want to talk much about McLaren.”

Ricciardo’s departure to McLaren in 2021 was one of the topics of discussion during the shutdown. When asked if he changed his mind, the Australian replied firmly: “I have no doubts. I can make good decisions, I think about it a lot. To be honest, I’ve already had some questions about this. I have made up my mind and will be driving the Renault in less than 24 hours, until then I really don’t want to talk much about McLaren. I focus on Renault, ”said Ricciardo.

Last year Renault finished outside the points, but Ricciardo thinks the team will perform better this year. “This track didn’t suit us very well last year. I am happy that we will drive here twice, because we can learn from that. We drove in Barcelona, but these are different circumstances. Progress has been made. I am confident that we will perform better with the updates, ”said the Australian.

Alonso of Vettel?
Due to the switch from Ricciardo to McLaren, a seat has become available at Renault. During the press conference, Esteban Ocon was asked if he would prefer to see Sebastian Vettel or Fernando Alonso riding next to him in 2021. “My preference has nothing to do with what the team decides,” the Frenchman emphasized. “Of course I admire Fernando, he fell in love with the sport. I don’t know if he will return, but I would like it, ”said Ocon.

Ricciardo would also choose Alonso, although he would never close the door for Vettel, “I have not yet experienced Alonso as a teammate, so I would like him. You can always learn something new. No one is perfect in this sport, but you can always improve. On the other hand, I was in a team with Vettel for only 12 months, so I certainly wouldn’t turn it down, ”concludes the Australian.
