Rashford is the “perfect partner” for an Henry-like martial at Manchester United, says Yorke

A former Old Trafford favorite claims that the couple can establish a relationship similar to what he enjoyed with Andy Cole at the height of his career

Dwight Yorke highlighted similarities between Anthony Martial and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, expressing his belief that Marcus Rashford is the “perfect partner” for the Manchester United striker.

Martial is currently experiencing the most prolific season of his United career to date.

The Frenchman has found the net 19 times in 37 appearances in all competitions, with his last sharp of goals scoring a 3-0 win over Sheffield United last week – which marked his first hat-trick for the club.

Rashford scored the same number of goals in three fewer games, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to push the English international out of the left wing, favoring Martial as his first choice center-forward.

Yorke thinks that the United duo has already created a “good connection” and can see an effective partnership flourish in the coming years that could return to his with Andy Cole.

The former Red Devils striker compared Martial’s offensive journey to his great Henry Premier and the Premier League, pointing out that their natural ability in front of the goal led to a change of position.

Yorke said The sun: “Anthony reminds me of myself and Thierry Henry in the way he started his career playing left or right before becoming someone who can play in the middle, while Marcus doesn’t have the merit of how smart a player is.

“He is the perfect partner for Anthony as he can play alone as number ten and fall into his pockets, going long or short or floating wide like I did with Andy Cole. Not that he should be stuck in that role because he can also run past Anthony to achieve his goals as well.

“I see a good bond developing between the two and a good connection.

“Obviously both of them will like to score and they know that they are judged on this forward, but, as you saw against Sheffield United, Marcus seemed equally happy to have set Anthony for two of his goals too.

“The key is based on this understanding, but also on the manager’s confidence that he seems to have told them ‘you’re my front two’ and gave them the head to go out and do it.”

Yorke went on to insist that Solskjaer is the perfect man to oversee the development of Martial and Rashford because of his previous experience as a “high-level” striker.

He added: “You don’t necessarily need that experience as a manager if you played at a level like Ole’s.

“He was there and he lived as he is at the highest level. He has remembered, learned from it and is now implanting it on his own. You can see it in his work with Anthony and Marcus.

“Anthony’s first two goals against Sheffield United were real poaching goals as Ole enjoyed scoring.”
