Pundit condemns Tottenham for “shocking decision” to lend Danny Rose to Newcastle

Tottenham’s decision to admit Danny Rose to Newcastle United has been described as “one of the most shocking you will see.”

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor believes the England international remains “one of the league’s best full-backs”.

Rose joined the Magpies in January and has helped Steve Bruce stay clean sheets four times in his nine appearances.

The 30-year-old appears to have no future under Jose Mourinho in north London, and his contract will expire at the end of next season.

Tottenham’s weak hopes for qualifying for the Champions League were virtually wiped out with the disappointing loss at Sheffield United on Thursday night.

Agbonlahor believes Spurs’ current defense is “not good enough” and has questioned Mourinho’s decision to favor Ben Davies over Rose.

Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: “As Spurs fans, I see your frustration, but Spurs have spent money.

“[Tanguy] Ndombele, it didn’t work, he wasn’t good enough. We are talking about [Giovani] Lo Celso, he’s a decent player, but will he take you where Spurs want to go? Not really.

“Look at the defense against Sheffield United – [Serge] Aurier, [Eric] Animal, [Davinson] Sanchez, Davies, it’s just not good enough.

“For me, one of the most shocking decisions is to let Danny Rose go and play Davies, because Danny Rose is still one of the league’s best full-backs.

“Well, Spurs spent money on me, but they didn’t spend as wisely as Man United and Liverpool.”
