PSG: the instructions for the draw of the Champions League

It is this Friday, July 10, from noon, that will take place in Nyon (Switzerland), the draw for the final tournament of the Champions League, which will be contested from August 12 to 23 in Lisbon. This draw will determine the posters for the quarter-finals for which PSG qualified in March before the games were suspended due to coronavirus.

To access it, Olympique Lyonnais, it will have to get rid of Juventus Turin, on the occasion of a round of 16 return whose date and place will also be announced this Friday. Here is what you need to know about this unprecedented and historic draw. Eight clubs can still hope to participate in the quarter-finals after the postponement of their return round of eighth. Winner of Juventus Turin (1-0) in the first leg, Lyon is one of them. The other matches concerned Real Madrid, beaten at home by Manchester City (2-1), Barcelona draw (1-1) in Naples, and Bayern Munich wide winner at Chelsea (3-0).

We will know this Friday the distribution of posters between Friday 7 and Saturday 8 August. We will also have confirmation of the place where the meetings will take place. After having considered organizing these eighth returns on neutral ground, in Lisbon, before the Final 8, UEFA, pressed in particular by Barcelona and Manchester City, would have accepted that they take place in the cities envisaged: Turin, Manchester, Barcelona and Munich.

All matches at 9 p.m.

Once the calendar for the knockout stages is known, UEFA will draw the final draw for its competition with the quarters (12-15 August), the halves (18-19 August) and the final (23 August). As in a tennis tournament, PSG will therefore know not only its opponent in the quarter, but also the identity of those it could face later.

The dates and the distribution between the two stadiums in Lisbon, Estadio Da Luz and Estadio José Alvalade will also be specified. We already know that all matches will be played at 9 p.m.

Contrary to usual, health precautions oblige, no club officer will physically attend the draw. However, some may intervene by videoconference to react once their opponent is known. Visible in streaming on the website of the European body, the draw will also be broadcast by RMC Sport, the event’s broadcaster.

Finally, the question of the presence or not of the public for these matches should be decided before Friday. Unless we are surprised, given the health situation in Lisbon, we are heading towards closed meetings.
