Prevost adds health, safety to the arsenal with an air purification system

Prevost has added an air purification option to its range of air filtration systems as part of the Prevost Clean + Care program to help operators ensure the safest possible transport for passengers.

The Atlanta-based customer, Southeastern Stages Inc., is investing in air purifiers for its fleet of intercity line services to support the health and safety of passengers.

“Preparing the interior of the coach by cleaning and disinfecting before and after each trip is customary, but the challenge was how to keep it clean during a trip,” said Brian Parker, head of operations for SES. “The introduction of the air purification process, through which the air is regularly refreshed, ensures that we have the cleanest and safest passenger environment possible.”

The air purification system generates ions, which attach themselves to the airborne particles inside the vehicle, increasing the weight of the particles and dropping them on the floor, where they can be cleaned and removed. It also filters viruses, molds, allergens and germs, allowing cyclists to be more confident about their safety while on the bus.

Maintenance free

While the air purifier is maintenance-free, buses must still be cleaned regularly, according to the guidelines in Vehicle disinfection preventive procedure, so that the system is fully effective. Air cleaners are available for the Prevost X3 and H3 bus models, as well as for the Volvo 9700 models.

“The air in a Prevost coach is replaced every five minutes,” said Eric DeGeorge, Prevost’s customer service manager. “We are confident in the functionality of the air purification system to improve air quality for both drivers and passengers.”

Parker said the installation process was completed quickly and with reduced vehicle downtime.

“We were delighted to find that it’s a fairly simple job,” he said. “A Prevost technician visited us here in our shop and trained our staff so that they can do the job in the future.”

Founded in 1933, SES has been a loyal Prevost customer for nearly 90 years.

“The Prevost and Volvo family focuses on safety, so it forms a great partnership,” said Parker. “We are committed to the safety of our customers and the purification system is a very significant aspect of our general safety philosophy.”
