The new English football champions Liverpool FC suffered an unexpectedly violent defeat in the top game of the English Premier League. Manchester took the lead with a penalty kick from former Bundesliga professional Kevin de Bruyne (25th). Ex-Liverpool Raheem Sterling (35th) and top talent Phil Foden (45th) raised before the break. An own goal by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (66.) sealed the swatter.

Before the kick-off, City, in which national team player Ilkay Gündogan played from the start, had trellised for the Reds at the inlet and paid tribute to the extremely strong seasonal performance – this is what tradition in the English House of Lords demands. Liverpool had been waiting for the title for 30 years. The Merseyside guests got off to a good start and had the best chance of taking the lead thanks to Roberto Firmino (4th) and Mohamed Salah (19th), who only hit the post. Then Joe Gomez came too late against Sterling in the penalty area, De Bruyne turned ice cold from the point for the Skyblues.

Even after the break, the hosts were the better team, but with the three-goal lead in the back they didn’t have to do much for the game. Even after the Citizens had finally withdrawn after the 4-0, Liverpool made no great efforts to make the game exciting again.

Previously, Champions League finalist Tottenham Hotspur had blundered in the race for the European Cup places. Team manager Jose Mourinho’s team lost 3-1 (0-1) to promoted Sheffield United and slipped to ninth place – the surprise team from Sheffield climbed past the Spurs to seventh, which would mean participation in the Europa League .
