Petersen narrowly past Van Gerwen at PDC Summer Series after a fantastic start

The South African started fantastic with the number one in the world. With a 12-darter, 11-darter and a 148 finish, Petersen was quick to score 3-0. The public favorite then increased his lead to 5-0. However, Van Gerwen did not give up yet and fought back in the match.

Thanks to finishes from 70 and 79 and a 13-darter, the lead was reduced to 5-4. An 11-darter then made a decisive leg, which Petersen was allowed to start.

The South African darter missed a match dart on tops, after which Van Gerwen got a chance of winning from 104 onwards. Mighty Mike missed his chance and gave his opponent another chance at winning. That present was unpacked by Petersen, who recorded his second ever win with the 17-darter against the three-time world champion.
