The International Automobile Federation (FIA) informed about it, stating that thanks to strict hygienic rules, the first positive finding in the formula will not endanger the fourth race of the season. Pérez should be replaced by one of Mercedes’ reserve pilots with whom Racing Point is working: either Stoffel Vandoorne or Esteban Gutiérrez.

Pérez first missed a press video conference in Silverstone due to ambiguous test results. He immediately headed away from isolation, and repeated inspections revealed covid-19 infection. The Mexican rider, who did not reach the circuit at all, was therefore placed in quarantine, as were everyone with whom he came into contact.

According to the FIA, the introduction of strict rules has immediately brought the situation under control and the British Grand Prix program, which will start Friday’s practice, is not endangered. The management of the Racing Point informed that Pérez, who, like the other participants in the championship, has to undergo an inspection every five days, feels physically fine.

Who will replace Pérez?

Racing Point intends to start two cars at the start, but has not yet announced who will replace Pérez. Gutiérrez is Mercedes’ reserve pilot for the coming weekend. The 28-year-old Mexican last introduced himself in Formula 1 four years ago in the colors of Haas.

Vettel does not regret the transfer to Ferrari. But he admits that he failed

Another option is Vandoorne, but he is preparing to continue the Formula E season. The 28-year-old Belgian driver last raced in Formula 1 in 2018 for McLaren. According to the rules, Racing Point can choose a completely different representative.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the formula started at the beginning of July with a four-month delay and a total of eleven races were canceled. There are currently thirteen Grand Prix in the provisional calendar, all in Europe.

As part of strict safety measures, they race without spectators, while the stables live in their own “bubbles” and do not come into contact with other teams at all.
