Olympic figure skater Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya dies at the age of 20

Russian-born figure skater Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya, who competed for Australia at the 2018 Olympic Games, died in Moscow at the age of 20, the International Skating Union reported on Saturday.

“The ISU is shocked by the news of Ekaterina’s death,” said ISU President Jan Dijkema in a statement on the organization’s website. “She was a talented pair skater and the figure skating community will miss her. We express our deepest condolences to her family, friends and teammates and mourn this tragic loss.”

Details of her death were not immediately known.

Alexandrovskaya teamed up with Harley Windsor from Australia in 2016.

Windsor posted and wrote a photo of the couple on Instagram: “Words cannot describe how I feel right now. I am devastated and sick about Katia’s sad and sudden death.

I can never forget the amount we achieved during our partnership and will always be close to my heart. You can never prepare for this message. Rest in peace Katia. “

The couple represented Australia in the international competition and won the Junior World Championship in 2017, according to the ISU.

“They were the first Australian skaters to write history that won an ISU championship title,” says the ISU. The couple won the ISU Junior Grand Prix Final title in 2017 and took part in the 2018 Winter Olympics.

They announced the end of their skating career as a couple in early 2020.

“For health reasons, Katia and I can’t go on,” Windsor wrote on Instagram in February. “I would like to take this opportunity to wish Katia all the best and a speedy recovery in the future.”
