New Jersey suspends betting on Ukrainian table tennis after a match-fixing notice

On Thursday, the New Jersey Game Application Division instructed state state books to stop betting on all ping-pong events in Ukraine or all games involving six players, after being warned of potential match fixing.

The Association for Monitoring the Integrity of Sports Betting warned New Jersey regulators on July 7 about concerns about rigged games related to Ukrainian table tennis, according to the notice given to sports books by application of the games is obtained by ESPN.

“Although there is still no evidence that rigged matches have taken place in New Jersey due to the nature of the alert, the division is suspending approval for betting on all table tennis events in Ukraine, including but not limited to. limited to the Setka Cup, WIN Cup and TT Cup, “says the notice.

Betting on games involving Liliia Zaitseva, Ivan Gaysin, Karen Dzhanibekyan, Eduard Panichev, Anastasia Efimova and Gleb Zotov is also prohibited, regardless of location, according to the notice.

With most of the major sports blocked by the coronavirus pandemic, betting on a dark international ping-pong has become increasingly popular in U.S. sports books, with hundreds of thousands of dollars being wagered every day on games that have taken place during the day. However, an ESPN report from May revealed uncertainties regarding the Ukrainian and Russian table tennis championships, including what the governing bodies were overseeing championships such as the Setka Cup.

Following the ESPN report, the Indiana Gaming Commission suspended bets on any table tennis event not sanctioned by the major sports governing bodies – the International Table Tennis Federation and the European Table Tennis Union – while Colorado, New Jersey and Nevada, among others, continued to allow betting on leagues such as the Setka Cup.

The president of the Ukrainian Federation of Tennis Tables on March 30 urged the interruption of the matches of the Setka Cup due to the pandemic, saying that whoever played has been disqualified from future UTTF competitions. The UTF would later disqualify 365 players for participating in Setka Cup matches during the pandemic.

The suspension of betting on Ukrainian table tennis by the New Jersey division of Gaming Enforcement remains in effect until further notice.
