Moto GP: double for Frenchman Fabio Quartararo

Fabio Quartararo is unstoppable. Intractable. A week after his victory at the Jerez Grand Prix, the first of his career, the French driver won the Andalusia Grand Prix this Sunday, contested on the same circuit. The French prodigy, 21, was able to savor his victory by crossing the finish line in slow motion, celebrating “à la Mbappé”, bust straight and arms crossed, standing on his machine. He is ahead of his future teammate Maverick Vinales, and the Italian legend of the queen competition, Valentino Rossi. Yamaha therefore places three motorcycles in the first three places.

This victory for Fabio Quartararo is historic. Never has a French driver won two races in the premier class. It is now done and the Niçois does not intend to stop there. The other Frenchman on the grid, Johann Zarco, finished in ninth place and won two points.

After his pole position, Fabio Quartararo made a big start, to escape on the first lap, and lead the race from start to finish. Last week, on the same circuit, the Frenchman had a more complicated start to the race, but still won. “This morning, I said I was doing bogus starts. There, I had a very bad start in testing, very good in the race, ”said the pilot at the microphone of Canal +.

Marc Marquez, the defending champion, was absent. Operated on his arm last Tuesday, the six-time world champion tried to take part in the Grand Prix, by participating in the last two free practice but gave up in qualifying. Now broad leader in the standings, Fabio Quartararo will try to secure another victory in two weeks, on the Masaryk circuit in the Czech Republic. And confirm that he is, now the favorite for the world title in the premier category, a crown that no Frenchman has ever won.
