Maybe This Is Candidate for Goalkeeper Substitute Kepa at Chelsea

Jakarta

It seems that Arrizabalaga will be pushed over by Chelsea next season. The Blues manager, Frank Lampard, has even reportedly begun compiling a coveted list of goalkeepers as a candidate to replace Kepa.

Sky Sports reported, Tuesday (07/28/2020) WIB, there are at least three names that interest Lampard, namely Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid), Andre Onana (Ajax Amsterdam), and Nick Pope (Burnley).

Oblak is a Zamora trophy winner for 4 consecutive seasons, before finally won by Thibaut Courtois this year. The trophy is a tribute to the Spanish League goalkeeper who conceded the fewest goals in a season.

Atletico is reportedly reluctant to release the Slovenian goalkeeper. The only way for Chelsea, if serious about aiming at him as a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga, is to activate the release clause which reaches 110 million pounds. Manchester United is also called interested.

Onana might be easier. Barcelona academy dropout goalkeeper has expressed a desire to move to look for new challenges. Ajax is also known as a club that is easy to negotiate with, as long as the price is right.

While Pope, despite being the oldest (28 years), has been tested in the Premier League. In the 2019/20 season, despite conceding 50 times, he successfully recorded a cleansheet 15 times out of 38 matches, even though Burnley only perched in 10th place in the final standings.

If given a more solid defense, Pope’s appearance might be even better. The price is also relatively cheap, which is 9.5 million Euros according to Transfermarkt. But Burnley will certainly ask for more.

The appearance of Kepa under the Chelsea rule was indeed criticized this season. He has conceded 58 times out of 41 appearances this season, not comparable to his status as the world’s most expensive goalkeeper.

Chelsea have also reserved Kepa Arrizabalaga in the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers (26/7) and replaced by Willy Caballero. Against Arsenal in the FA Cup final on August 1, it is likely that Lampard will do the same.
