Mavs C Willie Cauley-Stein celebrates the birth of the newborn baby

As the Mavericks prepare to travel to Florida to restart the NBA, Willie Cauley-Stein welcomed their newborn daughter Tuesday.

“07-07-2020, a legend was born,” said Cauley-Stein via Twitter.

Cauley-Stein was the only Mavericks player who gave up on restarting the NBA. Sources told Brad Townsend of SportsDay that Cauley-Stein cited the expected birth of his son in July. Cauley-Stein also carries the sickle cell trait, which could put him at greater risk of coronavirus.

In early March, Cauley-Stein tweeted a video in which he and his partner revealed the boy’s gender.

The Mavericks acquired Cauley-Stein in an exchange with the Golden State Warriors on January 25, a few days after losing the starting center Dwight Powell for an Achilles breakup at the end of the season.

In 13 games with the Mavericks this season, Cauley-Stein averaged 5.2 points and 4.6 rebounds in 12.1 minutes per game.

Despite its short time with the team, the Mavs organization has proven on several occasions to support Cauley-Stein.

Cauley-Stein took a nine-day absence due to the death of his family. Upon his return, the organization welcomed him with open arms.

“It’s A1,” he said. “Show that it is an excellent organization. He showed a lot of love. It still shows a lot of love. It’s always a good thing to come in. “

Cauley-Stein signed a two-year, $ 4.46 million free agency deal with the Warriors last July, but the second year is a player option, at $ 2.86 million.
