Manly Sea Eagles props referee Grant Atkins called “retard” on second spray after losing to Newcastle Knights

Fonua-Blake had already been cursed for calling Atkins “f – retard” after being dispatched from the field after the siren after the controversial call. Details of further referee abuse were announced this morning on 2GB after the broadcaster Ray Hadley obtained a copy of the official referee’s report. According to Hadley, Fonua-Blake said to Atkins, “Are your eyes on you?” When they crossed after the game.

Fonua-Blake is out for two games after pleading guilty to a third-class violation, but could pause for another week. He is likely to miss his second leg against North Queensland in Townsville after refusing to have the flu shot. Players who refused the shot are not allowed to travel to Queensland.

Fonua-Blake apologized to Atkins for his post-game behavior.

“Referees have a very difficult job and we all have to respect their decisions, even if we may not agree with them,” said Fonua-Blake in a Manly statement on Sunday.

“I shouldn’t have let my feelings overwhelm me and I am very sorry for the comments I made.
