Man Utd fans make fun of Jose Mourinho after Bruno Fernandes’ “crazy” claim

Jose Mourinho was laughed at by Manchester United fans – after claiming that he would not have swapped Giovani Lo Celso for Bruno Fernandes.

Tottenham was close to a summer move for Fernandes before Mourinho’s rendezvous.

But he stayed at Sporting Lisbon because neither Spurs nor United were willing to meet his asking price at the time.

Instead, Tottenham got Argentine director Lo Celso from Real Betis on loan before the move was made permanent in January while Fernandes headed to Old Trafford.

Fernandes had an immediate impact in Manchester, while Lo Celso has yet to score a goal in the Premier League in 22 appearances.

And he struggled to make an impact in a 3-0 defeat against Sheffield United less than 24 hours after Mourinho’s remarkable claim as United fans were ready to mock their former manager.

Jose Mourinho and Tottenham spent a bad evening on Bramall Lane

Mourinho told Sky Sports News: “I don’t know anything, but if that’s true, and if Giovani Lo Celso was the player who came to Spurs [instead of Bruno Fernandes], so I would say that I would not change Giovani Lo Celso for any player.

“[I wouldn’t swap Lo Celso] for any player. It is not just for Bruno, but for any player. “

A fan called his comments “crazy” after seeing Lo Celso in action on Bramall Lane, while others said he was clearly “lying”.

Another United fan said: “How could he (Fernandes) do it now” with another saying: “Lo Celso would not change with Fernandes …. So glad that he is no longer our manager. Clueless!”

Giovani Lo Celso had minimal impact after Jose Mourinho said he would not trade him for Bruno Fernandes

After doing everything possible to defend Lo Celso against Fernandes, Mourinho praised his player before the game.

The Portuguese boss said: “I came to the club and was not playing. I think the only game that started was the Red Star in Belgrade away from the Champions League – apart from the fact that it was not playing.

“When I got there I went in other directions and did exactly what I love to do to a player: ‘I’ll show you’.

“[There was] no spoiled childish reactions, no tears, no complaints, no agents and family who sent messages to the press and social media. It was just between him and me: “I’m going to show you,” and he showed me step by step.

“The way he worked every day, the way he came to the games, the way he changed the games.

“I remember the game against Liverpool: he was on the bench, he entered the last half hour and changed the game. The only thing that didn’t happen was the change in the result because we were so unlucky, but it changed the game.

“When he got his first start: ‘Goodbye, I don’t give you a chance and this place is mine.” Right now, what people can see from him is an injured player who plays, or a player who during the week it doesn’t work like the others.

“He is working with many different conditions to try and play and try to hold out until the end of the season, so what you see from Gio is not the end product now – he is a fantastic player for us.”
