Lone par-breaker is a medalist at the Michigan Women’s Amateur Golf Championship

Spring Lake’s Anna Kramer was the medalist of Michigan’s 104th Women’s Golf Championship after being the only player on the field to break the tie during the two qualifying rounds.

It marked the second consecutive year in which he won the stroke medal.

Kramer shot 1-over-par 73 in Sunday’s second round to finish with a total of 36 holes of 1-under 143, which was good for a one-shot win against the Nichole Cox Empire, who fired 71 at second round at Forest Akers West on the Michigan State University campus.

Mikaela Schultz of West Bloomfield, Ariel Chang of Macomb Township and Anika Dy of Traverse City scored the third with 2-over 146.

Everyone moved to the 32-player field for match play, which starts on Monday. The matches continue on Tuesday with the semifinals and the final scheduled for Wednesday.

Kramer, the leader of the first round, made 15 preparations to go with a bird and two carriages during a round that was delayed twice by time.

“It was quite exciting and this is one of my favorite summer tournaments, so I really want to play it well,” said Kramer, who plays at the University of Indianapolis. “I thought I was going to bond with Nichole.

“I had looked at the standings on the turn and I knew it was the right time because he was playing well. It has been a long day. I was supposed to start playing at 10:10 (am) and eventually we left at 4:10 (pm) all the time. I am happy to have passed everything. “

Cox will play Bowling Green in the fall.

“I worked very hard this summer because last summer was a bit tough for me and it’s nice to see some results that come with it,” said Cox. “I feel really good right now. Making the “Sweet 16” is always my goal, and lately I have played well, so I was looking forward to playing and being on the hunt. “

Match winner Kerri Parks of Flushing from 2018 also won the West Virginia women’s amateur last weekend. Parks, who plays at Marshall University, finished sixth at 149 with Elizabeth Harding of Beverly Hills.

Haslett’s Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll, last year’s runner-up and women’s golf coach at Michigan State, also continued to play with 150 points.
